Big Smokey’s Music-

Howdy! I am Grant “Big Smokey” Johnson, a professional musician based out of Nashville, Tennessee.  I specialize in classic country and roots music forms.  From Rockabilly to Bluegrass to Texas Shuffles to Hillbilly Jazz -If it is twangy, I can play it!  I mainly play Guitar, Steel Guitar, Pedal Steel, & Dobro.

I currently play lead guitar for country legend Bobby Bare, as well as Derek Hoke, Sarah Gayle Meech, Billy Joe Huels, in live settings as well as occasional work for many other Nashville and Seattle artists.  I have played for alt-country luminaries such as Jon Langford, and Seattle alt-country artist Christy McWilson. I also play sessions and have created soundtrack music for two independent feature length movies, a television show pilot for CBC (Canada), and some commercials.  Recent Session work has been for Tavo Vega, Jacob Jones, Sarah Gayle Meech, Derek Hoke, Trevor Keith, David Cox,  and a promo soundtrack for Dolan Geiman, a noted Artist from Chicago.

  1. Just sayin’ howdy. I talked with Tony Logan today who said he saw you in Nashville recently and was really impressed. I played one of their guitars at NAMM a couple of month ago and really liked it… good feel, good twang. If you see DB, tell him “howdy” for me. –Jim

Hi Grant, my wife and I saw you and db play in Nashville over labor day,
we bought a cd you and the band had up for sale. It’s pretty cool, like it alot. Rummagin around the iternet, found your web site, did not know you are from the NW, so are we. My wife I had a laugh when DB broke a string and said, ” I’ve broke a string and my tuner not’s working and that’s a bad combination”. You made a comment after a song was over saying something like ” here’s what we need to fix”, I cannot remember exactly but we laughed over it. Just saying hi, and thanks for the good music.
    Good luck
